I had a great time in San Francisco and had dinner with a few local Rubyists. Layton Wedgeworth drove all the way from Sacramento and was kind enough to pick up the bill for the evening!
The Carson Workshop went quite well inspite of a visit by a random street person. There’s always an inescapable lull right before lunch, right after lunch, and during the last hour of the day. I’m going to see if I can involve some sort of demonstration involving flame at those times to keep the crowd (and myself) awake.
One of the best parts of a Carson Workshop is the after party where you can network with other developers. In this case, there were four after-parties, including a stop at Sloshcon, hosted by Rails developer Ivan Storck of Sustainable Marketing and a visit to the creepy Clift club where photos on the wall slowly turn and frown at you.
My next workshop will be a two day hands-on workshop in London, August 10-11. More details next week, but I can tell you that it will be at the Feng Shui-tuned Energy Clinic, so get ready to energize your Rails development with some good Chi.

Next, RailsConf in Chicago! This graphic will be automatically updated to countdown the days, using the new scene graphs in Gruff.
Thanks again Layton for the dinner. It was nice to meet all of you guys!
It was great meeting everyone. Layton, thanks again for picking up the tab! If anyone has any RoR projects online you should throw some links up so we can see what you’re up to!
Thanks for the shout out Geoff! I have been slacking writing about your excellent class on my blog – it really was a great class. I feel like I finally grok RoR and am ready to rock out with it!
Hats off to you! I can’t imagine how you cope with all that flying backwards and forth :) Getting on a plane for vacations is bad enough for me!
Hey! You’re famous…. again… How’s your new house?
