The first computer I bought with my own money was a Mac clone. One of the first things I did was buy a second video card and a salvaged 13” monitor so I could run two screens at once. What luxury!
So I was a little lost when I bought an iMac G5. One screen just didn’t cut it.
Fortunately, there’s Screen Spanning Doctor. I also snagged a 20-inch Dell 2005fpw for only $430 (they are back up to $580 now). It’s much better and I can feel my productivity increasing already!
It seems like a great monitor, but is a little blurry using the VGA input. Maybe I’ll have to bite the bullet and just get one of the new dual G5’s?
Fixes a few bugs, such as processor hogging when you try to draw a graph with no data, and an attempt at fixing load errors on some installations. Make sure you have RMagick installed first!
Thanks for all those who sent patches…I’m working them into the next release.
For some reason, the gem doesn’t always show up in RubyGems. The noble RubyForge staff are working on the problem. In the meantime, you can download it manually from RubyForge.
It’s not official yet, but I did an hour or two of graphic design work on a new Ruby Community site coming soon from zenspider. Take a peek!
Oooh. Cool. More screen space is always good. That’s why I just ordered a 17” PowerBook. I didn’t know that you could get the iMacs to support two screens; I assume that they have a second “display mirroring” port, just like the ibooks, and that the same set of hacks work?
Nice – I’ve got a pair of 17” flat panels here, and it certainly pushes up your productivity being able to see the documentation and code at the same time.
I’m hugely jealous of that monster though :P
Multi-display is the only way to fly!
I use x2x for my third display, but if you’re on a Mac you could try synergy.

I’m also using a VGA input on one of my 2005FPW’s. When using VGA make sure you go into the menu, the go to Image Settings, and then choose Auto Adjust. Doing this ensures it will be as sharp as possible. (you may have already done this but I thought it was worth mentioning)
Yes…I also went into the menu and adjusted Pixel Clock and Phase to get the clearest picture. I’m sure using actual DVI would be much clearer, though.
I haven’t tried it out, but the picture-in-picture is a nice feature. Hook up a VCR or other TV tuner and watch TV while working! That would offset the productivity gains from having all those extra pixels.
