Many, many people have asked about a Rails workshop in New York. It’s happening May 25!
The cost is only US$495 for the one-day workshop and a CD with tons of useful code. And of course, it’s presented by the stellar people at Carson Workshops. Sign up now!
The London Workshop sold out and was a great success. I received very positive feedback, but of course, I’ll be taking the comments from there and making the next one even better. For a small sample of the cheat sheet included with the course, try this one-page sample. I’ll be expanding that further into a 20+ page document for New York.
Somehow, the big dogs peeped into the Campfire backchannel session going on and started jeering me! It’s like the CIA, I tell you! They’re everywhere!
Fortunately, I was quite nimble and kept the audience laughing. They can only spy on what people type! (I hear that their web 2.0 mind-reading app will be released later).
Aww man, I’d really like to go, but it’s probablly not going to happen given that I’m starting my job in NYC that monday and skipping work your first week isn’t exactly a Career Positive Move, if’n you know what I’m sayin’.
Do you know if Carson Workshops will be releasing a Survival Kit based on your materials from this (or the London) session?
Yes! There will be a Survival Kit from the London materials.
I’ll post an update when it is ready for sale.
How do these workshops compare to the workshops that 37signals does?
It sounds like a blast. It might be tough to fly from Alaska to NY to catch the workshop but all the best anyways. Cool cheatsheet example too. I can imagine thatll be a hit for many!
I haven’t attended a Getting Real workshop, but the 37signals workshops are more oriented toward general application design, project management, and business organization.
This workshop is straight up Ruby on Rails. We’ll talk about the general concepts of Rails, and then build a simple project in the afternoon.
It’s great for someone who is experienced with website development in PHP, Java, or any other language. I’ll cover the basics of Ruby, so you don’t have to know any Ruby (which is true for most people learning Rails for the first time).
If you already have some experience with Rails, it’s a great way to get familiar with the range of skills you need to be a remarkable Rails programmer, such as testing and deployment.
Great site. I hope that you can help me. I’m looking for a Ruby programmer to build me a shopping cart. Can you recommend anyone? Thank you
