Ladies and gentlemen, I present PeepCode!
PeepCode is a screencast series that will be released monthly and will cover relevant topics step by step. I’ve learned from many of the Rails-related screencasts but they are often poorly produced, too brief, infrequent, and more useful for marketing than learning.
The first episode is 50 minutes long and covers RJS Templates. It’s a great companion to Cody Fauser’s book RJS Templates for Rails. After a pre-screening he said
I really enjoyed it. Very comprehensive and interesting with a ton of material.
A portion of the profits from PeepCode benefit the Rails Podcast and the Rails Documentation Project.
Enjoy!
Hey, great idea. Good luck with it.
Watched the majority of it last night Geoff. Nice work and informative info.
This is a fantastic idea. One of the things I’ve loved about rails (and the other modern web frameworks) is the use of screencasting for tutorials. I’ve just bought my first peepcode video, and eagerly await more.
Very nice Geoff, one quick question tho:
Is there any surcharge for buying overseas or will it just convert with the current exchange rate?
If so that makes it only £4.70 from the UK, which is great!
Oh and don’t forget your favicon on Peepcode.
You rock Geoff! I’ve found that many of the examples of using RoR out on the web assume a level of knowledge that newbies don’t have. Many frequently leave one of the pieces up to the newbie to deduce on their own. For example, it would be really helpful if every plugin came with a sample app that included, a model, controller, and new and edit views.
Awesome…can’t wait to download it. Love the podcasts, and this sounds even better!
Very cool idea, I am going to download right now.
Quick question, what app do you use to record your screencasts? I have a MacBook Pro, but I have not been able to find screencast tool I like.
Anyway, once again awesome job.
Thanks for the support! The response has been great and I’ll definitely be producing more episodes in the near future.
@Carlos: I use SnapzPro, but they haven’t made it Intel compatible yet. Hopefully soon…
Thanks for this, Geoff, it’s a great idea. I look forward to seeing future episodes.
If you’re looking for a Universal Binary screencast tool, iShowU might be worth a try.
I got a chance this morning to watch the rest of that screencast Geoff. Very interesting watching how you test rjs. This was/is good stuff!
Thanks Geoff, this really is a great introduction to RJS. I’ve been playing around with it for a while, but your screencast had lots I hadn’t seen before. Looking forward to the next one! Keep up the good work, and I really enjoy your podcast!
Excellent screencast! Just bought the RJS Templates for Rails pdf, this goes great with it. Completely answered a lot of my questions about RJS. I look forward to the next one.
