Over the next few months I’ll be traveling quite a bit. I hope to see some of the faithful readers of my blog, interview some famous Rubyists for the podcast, and Ruvangelize the world.
- Seattle.rb (Tuesday, August 29) There is a rumor that Zed Shaw may be show up, too (no guarantees).
- Oslo, Norway (September) I’ll be on vacation but I hope to track down Ruby sage Chris Pine for the podcast. Is there a Ruby brigade in Oslo?
- RailsConf London (September 14-15) Attending and podcasting
- Sydney, Australia (November 11-18) I’ll be teaching two workshops for beginning and advanced Rails developers. If you are in Australia, New Zealand, or Southeast Asia, this is your chance to attend a Rails seminar! I also hope to visit the WellRailed Brigade in New Zealand and maybe speak at a local university if I can get a reasonable plane ticket. Stay tuned…
Of interest to Rubyists wherever you are:
- Later this fall, the publication of my book on Rails Deployment (lead author Ezra Zygmuntowicz). A beta from the Pragmatic Programmers should be out in about a month.
- More PeepCode. PeepCode has been quite successful after only two weeks and I’ve got a few other authors preparing screencasts on a variety of topics. Right now I’m working on a TextMate screencast that has taught me quite a bit about navigating, scripting, and automating TextMate (look for it later this week).
- Other irons in the fire to be announced later…

I’m not the big Ruby guy myself, but just drop me a line and I’ll take you out for a drink in Oslo. You should also meet the guys making underskog.no a well-made RoR-powered closed community that have gotten a lot of hype over here…
I don’t know if we can call us a Ruby brigade (yet), but we had our first meeting in Oslo last week, and that was a positive experience.
I don’t think there are many developers in Norway that code in Ruby for a living, but I hope that will change soon.

Like the two above says, there’s not much (in Oslo) in the way of Ruby, but we’re few, and we’re having fun. If you take up on Geir’s offer, shoot me a line as well, I’m sure we can get together a tiny ruby-gathering over a few beers.
Didn’t realize Chris Pine lived here though!
I can’t wait for this one! This is a huge missing piece of the Rails docs and I am very happy it is being written. Thanks.
